Blast from the Past

I'm posting this early - I've been sick, plus I have Randy's kids staying for 6 days (and 5 nights!) and I'm not getting on the computer much. For those of you who don't know, Randy has a 4 1/2 year-old son, Wyatt, and 2 1/2 year old twins, Grace and Garett. I am 46. Today was day one. Not a great start since I have the tummy virus they had last week. I feel much older than 46 tonight.Oy.

Anyway, this photo is said to be of Jessie Mae, our paternal great grandmother. I understand Grandpa didn't talk about her much. I have some stories, but want to hear what you guys know before I write anything.

All I know is that she had red hair, that she left great grandpa and the kids, remarried, and died. Grandad went to see her once but wouldn't speak about it. I don't know when. He was happy to whenever a red haired baby was born and he'd say they had hair like his mother. I'm seeing mom next week so maybe I'll have more to offer.

I know Grandpa went to live with her for awhile after he quit school in 8th grade. He supported her by washing train engines. She lived in a tiny apartment above a laundromat in Illinois.
I'll be curious to see what stories Aunt Sherry has to tell.

I have a photo of the outside of the apartment that Grandma Jessie lived in. I also have photos of her tombstone. I have copies of newspaper articles from when her sister passed away and she went back for the funeral, and another time when she took my Grandpa Al and one of the other boys with her.

I don't know how to add photos, etc. Tell me how and I will scan and post some of what I have.

I am happy I can finally get back on this Cousins Blog. I was real happy see Judy is in it, did anyone contact her on how to put her things in the blog. She will have more than the rest of us as she has been working for some time on the Adams History. I remember dad telling how he hich hiked to Illinois to see his mother, he wanted to tell her about his girl, which was our mother. He said he slept in a jail cell in I believe DeMoines Iowa, he said you didn't have to be arrested to sleep in a cell in those days. He worked for food etc. on his treck across the states. I don't know why they got divorced and Grandpa made mom promise to get rid of his divorce papers so no one could read them when he passed. Mom did as she was asked. Grandpa was a private person and his business was his, dad was very much like him. I would love to see some of the information Judy can offer. One thing I know Dad loved his mother and he loved her Auburn hair. She was a beautiful lady.
